This is troubling, because you could make the wrong purchase, start breaking it in only to find out it was the wrong glove for you. Let us offer you a quick guide to buying a custom glove.

The keys are:

    1. Glove leather.
    2. Rolled Leather Piping/Welt.
    3. Binding & Lace.
    4. Tensile Strength Thread.
    5. NYStix Service.

Glove Leather

NYStix Empire series handcrafted baseball gloves are made with US Steer Leather and European Kip leathers. The #1 thing to know about glove leather is the quality and strength depends on where it was cut from. The leather comes from the higher section of the steer. The leather has the right flexibility , if you bend it or roll it the leather returns to flat state. As you move to the lower sections, the leather is softer and does not keep its form over time. The glove leather is an important part of any baseball glove. But how the the gloves’ fingers are kept together makes a difference when fielding hard hit baseballs.

The strips of material that seem to glue the fingers together and holds the front and the back parts together. This material is called glove “welt” or “piping”.

NYStix uses rolled leather, same leather used for glove shell, to keep the fingers stiff and ready to field those liners. Retail and some other brands may use a weaker material like plastics, cork or vinyl.

Leather Binding

A baseball gloves’ “binding” keeps the pocket, back and front shells together. The quality of this leather is crucial in holding the gloves structure when making normal catches,  diving catches and tag outs.

Pro rawhide lacing is the most important, because it keeps the ball from going through the glove web.  Pro lacing will keep the glove together and supports the wear and tear of 1000’s of catches.

Tensile Strength Thread

I bet you never gave a lot of thought to stitching/thread that is sewn into web, and around the glove. It matter’s a lot.

NYStix baseball gloves uses thread used  on special use uniforms and protective gear to join the pieces of the web and reinforces the welting that keeps the fingers together.

What Our Customers Say..

I really love the quality of the wood that's used to make NYStix. I've had a few bats that lasted me longer than some of the top name brands that are used by actual professional. I have no complaints ask the baseballs I've used them on, lol.
